The Western States Wild Horse & Burro Expo Needs Your Support!

WHY?

  1. We offer attendance at all of our events FOR FREE! But we have tremendous costs. Think what you would expect to pay at other horse events - if you can afford it, please make a donation to EXPO!

  2. People won't protect what they don't love and they won't love what they don't know.

Whether it's adoption and training for mustangs and burros in captivity, or responsible management in the wild - Expo helps educate the public, and inspires them to CARE.

Through our shows, clinician's presentations, and entertainment acts, Expo raises public appreciation for wild horses and burros - both in the wild and in captivity and/or domestication.

  3. Expo promotes the successful adoption of wild horses and burros who have been gathered from public lands.

In 2005, 38 wild horses were adopted directly through Expo's efforts (The Expo adoption, plus 12 adopted from Palomino Valley by Expo participants during Expo Weekend) It is hard to calculate, but we know of many, many adoptions that took place after someone had been to Expo - Expo provided the inspiration and encouragement to go ahead and adopt.

  4. Expo provides a Showcase for successful owners, trainers, and adopters of formerly wild Mustangs and Burros, and a venue for people who love wild horses and burros to come together for fun, education, entertainment, sharing, and friendly competition. Expo is a time for mustang and burro owners to reaffirm that they made the right choice in adopting a mustang or burro.

  5. Expo "raises the bar" for mustang and burro owners - encouraging them to develop their horse or burro's full potential to excel in their chosen discipline. This is an essential ingredient to improving the mustang's status in the overall equine community. People have to see how good these animals can be!
  6. Expo is All Volunteer. Our Committee works year-round to raise the $25,000 needed to rent the facility and pay all our other expenses (printing, mailing, awards, travel and lodging for our volunteer judges, etc.) as well as to promote adoptions and public understanding and appreciation of wild horses and burros and their issues.

  7. Expo allocates a portion of our funds each year to help support wild horse and burro rescue, advocacy, sanctuary, and preservation projects.  See our GRANTS page

  8. Expo provides free or low-cost vendor booths to non-profit rescue and advocacy groups. Expo provides grants to non-profit groups who rescue, feed, train, and facilitate adoptions for wild horses and burros.

Today the 33-year-old Wild Free-Roaming Horse & Burro Protection Act is under attack, and the future of both the Adopt-A-Horse Program and the continued Existence and vitality of wild herds is much in question.

It is more important than ever that we come to Expo, show off our horses and burros to the public, celebrate our successes, and work for a future that includes wild free-roaming horses and burros - protected in the wild and honored in captivity.
