Equine Citizenship Test

Each station is worth points towards the maximum amount allowable 100.  You may earn up to the maximum points for each station towards a pass (60 points or higher) or fail (59 and below) grade.

5 Walking in Hand

Horse/Burro must walk beside handler on loose lead.  Must not pull or Lag too far behind.

10 Walk through gate

Horse/Burro must walk in and out of gate without rushing, bolting or dragging handler.  They must precede the handler through the gate while handler holds gate open.

10 Being sprayed with fly spray

Using spray bottle with water in it the handler must apply the fly spray while the horse remains quiet.

5 Clipping

Horse/Burro must allow the clippers to touch bridle path or legs and remain quiet.

15 Loading in and out of trailer

Horse/Burro must load into and out of trailer in quiet, safe manner. Handler may load in whatever manner they “normally” use.

15 Picking up all 4 feet

Horse/Burro must allow handler to pick up and handle all 4 feet.  Must stand quietly and not move away or strike out at handler.

10 Allow teeth and mouth to be examined

Allows handler to show teeth to judge.  Must stand quietly and not pull away

5 Touching ears, eyes body etc

Horse/Burro must allow handler to touch all over the body. Should not strike out or pin ears or show any aggressive behavior

5 Remove and replace halter

Horse/Burro must stand while halter is taken off and put back on

 

5 Strangers

Person walks towards Horse/Burro at brisk pace.  Horse/Burro may show interest in person but should not shy away or get agitated.

5 Pass off

Handler passes horse/burro to another person and walks away.  Horse/Burro should remain calm and not pull towards first handler.

 Yield Hindquarters and Shoulders

Handler moves front and hindquarters of horse/burro using the least amount of pressure needed.
