ADOPT A MUSTANG AT 2005 EXPO!

If you've always wanted a horse with those sound Mustang feet and legs and that Sane Mustang Mind -
but didn't want to take on the task of gentling a wild one - this is the Adoption for you!

To Adopt, fill out an adoption application at the VRWPA booth. This will qualify
you to bid in the Saturday adoption auction.

Lifesavers will handle their own adoptions at their booth.

The 4 BLM horses are available first come-first served for $125 at the BLM booth.

EXPO Will feature horses for Adoption or Purchase from:

Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue: The Lifesavers "Dream Team" of young volunteers has been preparing these 6 mustangs for adoption at Expo. Lifesavers has rescued them from various situations - mostly from the Fish Creek debacle - and these will be shown in the horse & burro show classes and auctioned off at our Adoption Auction. These horses are (obviously) already gentled and have a strong Ground Work Foundation.

Trainer Chriss Suggs will offer a rescued and trained mustang for sale/adoption:

This horse is being trained by Chris Suggs.  He is donating his time to train it. If you have questions about this horse, or about training a horse you may already own or want to adopt, call him at 209-617-9289

Palomino Valley BLM Corrals will provide the horses for our clinicians who are doing wild horse demos. These will be available for adoption at the BLM booth.

VRWPA (Virginia Range WIldlife Preservation Association) will offer around 20 Comstock horses, with a variety ages, sizes, and colors

There may be multiple photos of some individuals in these pictures, but as you can see, there is quite a nice variety here - and all pre-gentled!

Holly, Russell, & Mikey - Orphan Foals raised by Sherry O'Mahoney
ZACK is a wonderful horse who went through the Carson City Prison Program a few years ago, was adopted into a very busy  household, where he spent the next few years as a pasture ornament.  Recently he has moved to Bart & Cindy Lawrence's, where the Lawrence family and friends are working with him to refine his training and get ready for a new, hopefully "Forever Home." He is doing very well and will be available at EXPO - this is a great opportunity to get a really super horse who needs a super home!
Cindy Lawrence says of Zack: The first day home, Reid was riding him.  On the third day home, Reid was on him bareback with a halter walking down the street.  After a few days, we came to the conclusion that Zack was afraid of  women.  So we decided part of his training should be done by me. Now since I'm the big chicken, and I LOVE ground work, this is what I decided was best for me.

The first day I went out to halter Zack, I had already moved the other horses, so he felt like he was being left out and let me halter right away (Yep, that had been my strategy).

The second day, he decided to run away from me in the round pen.  His first adopter had always caught him by making him run around until he was tired of running and then halter him.  I think that's silly. So he started to run, and I made him turn.  When he turned and started to run, I made him turn again.  Did this 4 times, he turned in towards me and kinda went, okay, what do you want? He then let me halter him right away.

Today is the second time I lunged him.  The first time on a lunge rope to keep control and see what he knew or remembered.  Today, I lunged him in the round pen with no halter or rope, and his lunging manners were PERFECT.  All I have to do is take one step back in the center of the circle and he stops.  I've been working on moving his feet with him in halter and at first he was nervous and moved quickly just to please me.  Took me a little while to slow him down and think rather than react.  Today, we had one minor correction time, but other than that, he was a perfect gentleman.

When I first started loving on his head, he wasn't too cool about it.  Didn't like it....felt claustrophobic - or whatever - about it.  Now (and this is only a couple of days worth of loving), he says, this feels pretty good, okay, you can love on me.

The picture of Zack with the hat on his head is so funny.  At his former home he was reported to be spooky, so I told Reid to take his hat off and wave it around.  Some horses hate that. Zack just stood there.  Reid put the hat on Zack's head, and still, he just stood there.

I think this horse is AWESOME.  He is going to make someone a GREAT horse.  If I didn't have Dream Cather (Little One - he has two names), I'd buy him.

The Carson City Prison Program will have 9 or 10 Saddle trained horses for adoption

These are all Comstock (Suburban Reno - Virginia Range area) horses

 Lynda Sanford, volunteer trainer,
and Cathy Barcomb, Expo co-chair, are offering EXPO GIRL to the right new home
Expo Girl is a healthy, well-built, beautiful 2-year-old filly, who had the misfortune to be sent to three adoptions that had more horses than adopters. As a result, under the new Sale Law, she's 3-strikes and out. Cathy Barcomb purchased her, and Lynda Sanford is training her for adoption at Expo.

She is quite the special girl, already haltered, and loves to be held and loved.....and that was just the first day!!!!

She is a bay, two whites on the rear (pastern and coronet), from Buckhorn HMA in Northeastern California, adjacent to the better-known Twin Peaks HMA
