CHOLLA THE PAINTING HORSE.....he paints with an artist's brush at his easel. He came from a rough beginning and was an artist in disguise. Renee rescued him from certain doom to dog food as he was labeled a volatile time bomb and nobody wanted him. Renee bought him and took him home, and now, 13 years later, he comes running from the green pasture into the art studio and salivates to get his brush in his mouth. Each year they customize a horse with a BLM freeze brand and adoption papers for the lucky bidder in the auction. ELQUIST'S MINING - BLUE GEM TURQUIOSE: All natural turquoise mined from Nevada mines. Jim Elquist mined in Nevada from 1954 through 1976 and has many years' experience mining in Nevada. He has an incredible collection of turquoise that he personally mined which he has made into beautiful jewelry including rings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants. NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS This is Nevada’s inmate/wild horse gentling program from the Warm Spring Correctional Center in Carson City, NV. The inmates are trained in gentling and riding wild horses using safe humane methods. These horses are gentled under the supervision of trainer Hank Curry, who has also donated a training clinic for the Expo. The horses are offered to the public at quarterly adoptions where you can obtain a saddle trained wild horse that you can take home and ride the next day. They also offer training of adopted horses that you can select from the BLM or State of Nevada "estray" program. You may select the horse you want and have adopted and then place it in their training program which is much safer for you and your horse. NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE - is responsible for capturing and holding "nuisance" wild horses in the Reno - Virginia City - Storey County area. These are the very horses that Wild Horse Annie knew and worked to protect, but ironically they were left out of the Wild Horse & Burro Act of 1971. By law these horses are only protected for 60 days, and when the clock runs out, their fate is uncertain. Mr. Mike Holmes works with non-profit rescue groups to save as many of these horses as possible. NEVADA RANCHER

Student Conservation Association Fire Education Corps is the largest program in the Student Conservation Association and this award winning program is designed to help communities reduce their risk of wildland fire destroying their homes and property. A Fire Education Team is working in northwest Nevada to deliver wildland fire prevention techniques and to teach the principles of survivable space to communities situated in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). The team will be present to answer questions, provide information, and sign homeowners up for a free evaluation of the fire risk to their property. VIRGINIA RANGE WILDLIFE PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION (VRWPA) One of the things this group does is raise money to feed the wild horses on the Virginia Range near Virginia City during the winter months. They will be offering stuffed animals, towels, pot holders, jewelry, T-shirts, raffle tickets for panels, rugs, stone boxes, and many other items with all the proceeds going into rescue work for the Comstock horses.
