CLASS DIVISIONS:
* Exhibition classes are both for entertainment, and as "test" classes for consideration as regular classes next year - similar to the way the Olympics uses Exhibition games as a stepping stone toward full Olympic status. | ANIMAL CLASSIFICATIONS: Mustangs, Mules, & Burros (Donkeys)
Note: In conformation classes (Halter) - Wild-Bred horses are shown in separate classes from Appendix. In other classes, animals are shown together, but awarded separate High Point Championships
* Freeze-branded will include BLM and some Comstock horses. Non Freeze-branded will include USFWS, USFS, Comstock, Indian Reservation, County & private lands from the Reno area and other areas known to have unprotected wild horses, & qualifying wild horses from other sources. Documentation is Required to prove wild origin of non freeze-branded stock. Appendix is an animal bred and born in captivity. Such animal must have at least one wild-born parent. Appendix status also needs documentation, but admittedly we are trying out this classification this year on the Honor System. Contact the Expo Committee ahead of time if you aren't sure if your animal qualifies, and we will issue an advance ruling. Anyone caught posing a ringer will be disqualified immediately and permanently. | EXHIBITOR CLASSIFICATIONS:

The purpose of the Western States Wild Horse & Burro Expo is to promote wild horse, burro and mule adoption. To do this, we aim to be as inclusive as possible of all aspects of the wild horse & burro "scene." We recognize that "to breed or not to breed" is a many-faceted issue that is charged with a lot of emotion on all sides.
The Western States Wild Horse & Burro Expo Committee has chosen not to use Expo to promote any particular stand on this subject. We simply recognize that many wild horse and burro adopters do breed their animals, and sometimes they adopt horses and burros specifically for the purpose of adding them to their breeding programs. We recognize that these horses & burros might not have been adopted otherwise. In order for Expo to truly present the world of wild horse & burro adoption to the public, we feel we need to include everybody. For these reasons, we include stallions, jacks, and "Appendix" (1/2 wild-bred, second-generation) mustangs, burros, and mules.
Like any other show animal, we request that stallions and jacks be trained to an acceptable level of ground manners. Any animal - jack, stallion or otherwise - that management feels is dangerous will be asked to leave. We also request that children under 18 not handle stallions and jacks at the show by themselves.
