WILD HORSE & BURRO ADOPTION!

This year's Expo will feature a number of different adoption opportunities. On Saturday afternoon, we will hold a live adoption for 10 saddle trained and 5 halter-trained formerly-wild horses from the Wild Horse Training Program of the Warm Spring Correctional Facility in Carson City, NV.

Throughout the weekend, LRTC/Wild Horse Mentors will make available for adoption all the horses and burros they have in their gentling clinics. These will be a mix of trained, gentled, partially-gentled, and still wild horses and burros from the US Dept. of Agriculture, Comstock (Reno-Virginia City area private and county lands), and US Fish & Wildlife Service (Sheldon Wildlife Refuge)
Many of these horses & burros will be started on the road to gentling by Expo clinicians and LRTC volunteers.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:
Plan ahead - a planned adoption is usually more successful than an "impulse buy."
Expo's adoptions this year will feature wild horses from a variety of sources. But we will be using a unified adoption application, and requirements for adoption are the same for all animals. To learn more, click here:
http://www.whmentors.org/lhp/adoptexpoinf.html

HIGH DESERT LIVESTOCK SUPPLY will be available in the vendor area of Expo, should you need to purchase a pipe panel pen for your new adoptee.

2004 Saddle-Trained Horses From The Warm Springs Correctional Facility in Carson City, Nevada

NEW ADDITION:
SHILOH
("Princess:)
Comstock Estray Wild Horse
Mare
14.2 hands
4 years of age.

This horse is a real sweetheart! Shiloh is loving and affectionate, very curious, willing, quick learner, with a very easy demeanor. She has been the lesson horse for the new inmates to learn to ride, but we decided she deserves a "forever home."  She is very sweet, loads in a trailer, picks up all her feet, has a very easy gait, is not in a hurry, and would make a wonderful horse for the smaller rider.  Please stop by and see her at the Expo.

Billie the Kid
Estray (Comstock) Horse
Bob is the rider
Billy the Kid, or Reno
Billy stops very well,  side passes well, backs up, trots and lopes well, loads easily in the trailer, and you can pick up all his feet, very easy to catch

#0765 Chopper
Rock Creek HMA
2 years old
14.3 hands and still growing.
Cody is the rider
Chopper is a strawberry roan gelding. He is a good horse for an intermediate or experienced rider. He stops well, backs up, side passes, trailer loads and is good with his feet. He is an overall good horse, he tries hard to please you and is very smart. He can pull a drag and you can rope from him.

DAVID
2 years old
Nevada Estray
Dan is the Rider

2 years old, 14.3 hands
(note that Dan, the rider, is over 6'6" tall, making the horse appear smaller)
approx.  800 lbs

Comstock horse, high energy horse, good mover, soft mouth, listens very well, backs up, side passes, trots and lopes well.

#9544 Lady
Callahan HMA
Dean is the rider
Trainer's Notes: Lady is a sorrel with a flaxen mane and tail. She has a personality as nice as she looks. With her long body and 15.1 hands and 1,000 lbs at such a young age of 3 years old, she will bring pleasure to anyone that rides or looks at her. From the minute I got Lady, I walked right up to her, put on the halter, lifted her feet and had a saddle on her all in 15 minutes. She has never bucked and loads in the trailer, walks over plastic and carries a flag or anything else I ask of her. All this in less that 30 days training so far. Don’t miss this great chance at this mare. We hope to see you at the Western States Expo in Reno, August, 2004.

Drifter
Nevada Estray (Comstock)
Rider is Shawn

A three year old bay gelding, a little shy at first but warms up quickly, he is very willing to learn and eager to please, approximately 14 hands and 750 lbs

#9727 Fancy
Mare - Callahan HMA
Rider is Jim
Fancy is a Mare! That's right - after the success of Tootsie, the "gelding" who turned out to be a mare (named after the hero/heroine of Dustin Hoffman's movie), The Training Program decided they'd lift their Geldings-Only policy! So here's Fancy, and what a beauty she is!

Fancy is a 4 year old sorrel mare, 15.1, with a white face, 1000 lbs, She will side pass, back up, trailer load, you can rider her bareback with a halter and lead rope. A good kids horse, gentle, and will pick up her feet. Good temperament. From day one handlers were able to walk up to her, pet and brush her, and put her halter on. On day 3 she was saddled and lunged, and she never once offered to buck. Day 4, she was being ridden and has been since then. She’s as pretty as her ride……….

#1606 Flintlock

Rascal is a 2 year old chestnut gelding with a flaxen mane and tail. He is a smooth ride with a good stop and back up. Strong enough to pull drags and logs. He is a good all around horse.

Snoopy
3-year-old Bay Gelding
Nevada Estray (Comstock)
14 hands, 800 lbs.

This flashy, bay with a high rear sock and wide face blaze really steps out. He is a high energy horse who travels really well and has an excellent stop. Snoopy also knows how to back up. He is  perfect for an experienced rider.

WHOA-FOSTERED ORPHANS:

The Lappin Family has been raising these orphan foals all summer. These pictures were taken in July. The foals are now ready for new homes. See the EXPO STORE BOOTH or MIKE HOLMES at the Warm Springs booth to talk with someone about adopting these babies.
